France began their Euro 2024 campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Austria on Thursday, thanks to an own goal from Maximilian Wober. The French were far from their best but managed to secure all three points in their opening Group D match.

Kylian Mbappe was a constant threat for France, and it was his cross that led to the winning goal. The Paris Saint-Germain forward whipped in a dangerous ball from the left, and Wober could only turn it into his own net under pressure from Olivier Giroud.

Austria had their chances to equalize, but they were unable to find a way past France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. The Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper made a number of fine saves, including a stunning stop from Marcel Sabitzer in the second half.

The win gives France a great start to their Euro 2024 campaign. They will now face Denmark in their second Group D match on Saturday, while Austria will take on Romania.
